THE PROBLEM

Nobody teaches you how to be a patient.

Eventually, teenagers are expected to manage their own healthcare. But when does anyone actually teach us how?

01What medications do you take?
02What are you allergic to?
03What do you want to ask your doctor?
Being a patient is a skill.
OwnUp helps you learn it.
HOW IT WORKS

Healthcare independence, one step at a time.

Five levels turn a vague idea — “take charge of your health” — into real skills you can practice.

LEVEL 01

Know Yourself

Learn your allergies, medications, blood type and health basics.

LEVEL 02

Know Your Story

Understand your diagnoses and important health history.

LEVEL 03

Speak Up

Practice describing symptoms and asking real questions.

LEVEL 04

Own Your Visit

Prepare for appointments and participate confidently.

LEVEL 05

Got it. Where are you feeling it?
Mostly in my throat.
How is it affecting your day?
Your answers become a one-page Appointment Readiness Summary.
THE FLAGSHIP FEATURE

Know what you want to say before the doctor walks in.

The Appointment Coach uses what OwnUp already knows and helps you organize your thoughts one question at a time.

STORY

Start · Tell me where · Overall feeling · Related symptoms · Your daily life

Then OwnUp turns your answers into a summary with your story, medications, allergies, and questions you want to remember.

SAFETY + PRIVACY

AI should help you talk to your doctor. Not replace one.

The line OwnUp will not cross is part of the product.

◎

No diagnoses

OwnUp never tells you what condition you have or assigns a probability.

✚

No treatment advice

It does not recommend treatment, tell you what to take, or provide dosing.

♡

Safety built in

Serious or crisis language redirects teens toward trusted adults, qualified care, and crisis resources.

⌁

Your information is yours

No ads. No selling your data. No third-party trackers. Delete health information or your account in-app.

Important: OwnUp is an educational and communication tool, not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified health professional before making medical decisions. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

WHY I BUILT IT

Hi, I'm Eleeza.

I've lived with serious allergies to several common antibiotics since I was young. As I started taking more responsibility for my own healthcare, I realized I knew how to repeat my allergies — but nobody had ever really taught me how to be a patient.

How do I explain my history? How do I describe what I'm feeling? What questions should I ask? I realized this wasn't just my problem. Teenagers are eventually expected to take responsibility for their healthcare, but we rarely teach them how.

So I built OwnUp.

I didn't want to build an AI doctor. I wanted to help teenagers find their own voice.

HOW I BUILT IT

Designed by me. Built with AI as a tool.

I developed the idea, designed the screens and five-level journey, created the STORY framework, chose the features, tested the app on my iPhone, and made the product and safety decisions. I used Claude Code as an AI coding tool to turn those decisions into a working app.

Building OwnUp also meant debugging real problems: progression that could lock later levels, layouts under the Dynamic Island, duplicate visit creation, and AI translation edge cases. Building the product taught me that making something work is only the beginning — it also has to be safe, understandable, and useful.

FAQ

Questions worth asking.

Is OwnUp giving medical advice?

No. OwnUp is an educational and communication tool. It helps teens organize their health information, prepare for visits, and communicate more clearly. It does not diagnose or recommend treatment.

How is this different from Apple Health?

Health-record tools are useful for storing information. OwnUp is designed around learning the skill: knowing your own information, explaining what you feel, preparing questions, and gradually participating in your own care.

What does the AI do?

AI supports appointment preparation, short knowledge checks, and allergy-card translation. It is deliberately constrained away from diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and dosing.

Is OwnUp free?

Yes. OwnUp is free, with no ads, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

What happens to my information?

OwnUp uses secured cloud storage with access controls so signed-in users can access their own information. There are no ads, data sales, or third-party tracking SDKs, and users can delete health information or their full account inside the app.

Did you code OwnUp yourself?

I designed and directed the product and made its feature, experience, and safety decisions. I used Claude Code as an AI coding assistant to implement the app from my directions, with technical mentorship and help managing developer accounts and App Store submission.

You're going to own your healthcare someday. Why not start now?

Own your health. Own your voice.
